Nostalgia, Patriotism and Spectacle in "The Home Front" Photographs
Melanie Friend will talk about the inspirations and influences for her photographic work The Home Front (2013), which focuses on the normalisation of militarisation, and the links between the military, marketing and entertainment. This presentation will have a particular emphasis on the way that the continuing British pre-occupation with World War II finds expression through the numerous air shows that take place every year across the UK.
