Community Climate Conversations for Wellbeing, Resilience, Inspiration and Action

Dr. Sally Gillespie (Climate Psychology Alliance, unceded land of the Gadigal and Wangal people in Sydney)

Sally Gillespie completed Ph.D. research on the psychological experience of ongoing engagement with the climate crisis. In her book Climate Crisis & Consciousness. Re-imagining our world and ourselves, she writes about the challenges, dilemmas, opportunities and transformations of climate engagement. Sally will speak about the range of psychological and emotional responses to climate and ecological crises. Developing an awareness of ecological threats and destructions can stir both eco-anxiety and grief, while experiencing climate driven catastrophes can be both traumatizing and motivating. This lecture will focus in particular on how community conversations and initiatives can develop resilience and commitment for life saving actions which address systemic inequalities and destructions.
